Shai Koshary, ‘irfa Balady

When at an ‘ahawa, don’t be like Jill here! Instead, be sure to ask for shai koshary (loose tea). The loose leaves are much more flavorful than the bland Lipton tea bag alternative, plus it’s how all the old men drink it.

The same goes when ordering ‘irfa (boiled cinnamon) or yansoon (anis tea). Ask for these balady.

Both ‘irfa and shai are also delicious when brewed with milk. Just tell the waiter “[your drink here] bil leban.”
