Shuhada Square Park

There’s an art museum in the middle due to reopen soon. In the center is a massive obelisk, in the same shape as the Washington Monument, surrounded by a raised platform, with bronze reliefs on the sides depicting battle scenes from 1956 and various other kitschy tableau of 20th century Egyptian military history: Nasser giving a speech, British and French parachutists descending to be attacked by peasants, farmers laboring and wiping the sweat from their brow, boats sinking, British soldiers pleading for their lives against the booted feet of old women.
